The Mount Saint Vincent University Students' Union (MSVUSU) is a non-for-profit organization committed to fostering a student experience that can be described as fulfilling, memorable, and fun. It is an organization made up of elected and hired students and staff who work for, and with Mount students. The purpose of MSVUSU is to provide effective representation, advocacy, governance, services, and student life to the students of MSVU.

About the Opportunity

MSVUSU is seeking a General Manager for the Students’ Union.

Reporting to the Student Union President, the General Manager is responsible for the management of the general operation of the organization, and providing support to the President, in keeping with the organization’s Constitution, Bylaws, and Policies. The role supports the President in the development and implementation of the strategic plan and monitoring the progress. This position is also responsible for human resource management, the orientation of new members, and ensuring the effective management of financial resources by monitoring all revenues, expenditures, and investments.

About You

As an ideal candidate, you will have completed your undergraduate degree in business or a related field and have three to five years of working experience in a management role with demonstrated competency in financial management; experience in a non-profit organization will be considered an asset.

You demonstrate a high degree of cultural competence and an understanding of the impact of personal behaviour in creating an inclusive and respectful workplace. You demonstrate human resource leadership and are viewed by employees as competent and caring. You coach direct reports while not assuming their accountabilities. You respond respectfully and effectively to all people, regardless of their similarities and differences.

You are result driven at the same time focused on serving your client, the students, dedicated to meeting their expectations and requirements. You have well-developed project management skills, having experience with managing multiple projects concurrently. You are respectful of others and able to develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with others inside or outside of the organization.
